Mallorca isn’t just a ponder of the world, but a wonderful haven for sports lovers too. Regardless of whether your preference is the land or the sea, Mallorca offers it all. It’s mountains are ideal for climbing or mountain biking and its completely clear waters and wonderful water temperatures between May to October make it great for water-sports.
Throughout the year Mallorca plays host to an array of events from tennis, to sailing. There’s s a few we’ve pencilled in our diaries not to be missed, starting with the Regatta Copa Del Rey. The Copa del Rey MAPFRE is competition sailing of the highest level in Spain and the Mediterranean, making it one of the most prestigious European regattas.
This year the event starts on the 28th July with big news of the debut of the Melges 40 class and the 6-Metre fleet participating as a guest class in its two divisions (classics and modern). This event is set to be huge, and we can make all the arrangements during your stay to ensure you have the best possible time.
Another great event is of course the Mallorca Open tennis during mid June. With such fantastic players such as Carlos Moyà and Rafa Nadal, it’s obvious Mallorca is the perfect place for tennis. Mallorca Open is a women’s tennis tournament played on grass courts, as part of the International category of the WTA Tour, and the event takes place at Santa Ponsa Tennis Club right next to one of our stunning villas! The Challenge Mallorca triathlon event will be held on 20 October this year, where contents will swim in one of the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean, cycling will reach up to 70 K/h in some stretches of the circuit and followed by a run along the crowded boulevard of Peguera as well as its promenade. There is still the option to register to join in the event, contact us if you’d like to find out more.
There’s also a really great cycling event which will run again next April; The Mallorca 312 which allows participants to discover one of the most spectacular islands of the Mediterranean’s landscapes, its climate and its good secondary road network. April is a great time to visit the island as the days are usually still very sunny, yet the temperatures aren’t too intense.
If you’re looking for something that you can get the kids involved in, Circuit Mallorca 10k half-marathon is a great event being held on the 14th October, which offers a kids run the day before on 13th October. The event is held in Parc de la Mar, in front of the Cathedral. There’s also a breakfast run held on 12th October too.
Finally, Mallorca hosts the Ironman Triathlon in Alcúdia, where more than 30 km of the coastline is made up of gorgeous, fine sand beaches and steep cliffs.
